Event Overview

Climate 2023 is our virtual exploration into the technologies, policies and people that will drive us towards a more sustainable and decarbonized global economy over the year ahead. We will address the near-term geo-political and policy challenges, as well as the funding requirements and breakthrough technologies essential to maintaining momentum towards Net Zero.

Over two days , we will feature our 16 sustainability verticals and a series of one-on-one interviews with the corporate leaders leading us forward. This will be a wide-ranging assessment of the climate investment landscape for the year ahead.

Tuesday, 6 December

19:00 SYD | 16:00 SGT | 08:00 GMT | 03:00 EDT | 00:00 PDT
Investing for impact: How are we doing?
The asset management industry needs to be conscious that best practices must evolve and that the current framework has flaws. How can our pension assets drive technological change and the speed of decarbonization? The industry needs to ask how we can do better.
Cindy Ponder - CareSuper, Liza McDonald - AWARE Super, Vladimir Demine - MSIM and Paul Krake - Climate Transformed (moderator)
20:00 SYD | 17:00 SGT | 09:00 GMT | 04:00 EDT | 01:00 PDT
Voluntary Carbon Markets: The True Outlook for Supply
The key area we would like to explore is whether or not the availability of high-quality and transparent supply can keep up with the extraordinary demand for offsets. Our recent VCM conference had conflicting views on whether we are over or under-supplied. We will get to the bottom of this.
Patricia Latini - Schneider Electric, Charles Bedford - Carbon Growth Partners, Jason Dodier - GRAIN Ecosystem, Adam Shedletsky - Flowcarbon and Paul Krake - Climate Transformed (moderator)
21:00 SYD | 18:00 SGT | 10:00 GMT | 05:00 EDT | 02:00 PDT

We elaborate on the role of blockchain in the future of voluntary carbon markets as registries and tech innovators forge a way forward. There will be a particular focus on the Verra and Gold Standard consultation processes.
Hayley Moller - Thallo, Adrian Wons - Senken, William Pazos - AirCarbon Exchange, Phil Fogel - Flowcarbon and Rob Schmitt - Toucan Protocol (moderator)
22:00 SYD | 19:00 SGT | 11:00 GMT | 06:00 EDT | 03:00 PDT
Compliance Carbon Credit
This will dive deeply into the outlook for compliance markets in 2023 and focus on the challenges facing compliance carbon pricing, such as European energy dislocations, climate policy changes in the United States and the effectiveness of a spluttering Chinese compliance market.
Yan Qin - Refinitiv, Michael Evans - S&P Platts, Jan Ahrens - SparkChange and Paddy Gourlay - Carbon Pulse (moderator)
23:00 SYD | 20:00 SGT | 12:00 GMT | 07:00 EDT | 04:00 PDT
One on One: Circulor
When we first met Circulor CEO and Founder, Doug Johnson-Poensgen, he left us with the simplest of statements that sums up our transition towards sustainability. If you can't measure it, you can't monitor it. Circulor provides supply chain traceability solutions from batteries to plastics, and Doug has been a thought leader in the use of data as the vital first step towards decarbonization. Paul and Doug will discuss everything from EU battery regulations to the global funding environment.
Doug Johnson-Poensgen: Circulor, Paul Krake - Climate Transformed (moderator)

01:00 SYD (dec 7) | 22:00 SGT | 14:00 GMT | 09:00 EDT | 06:00 PDT
US Climate Policy: The Legal Perspective
US Climate policy is more than vision and money. It requires a robust legal framework that faces potential court challenges and a slew of differing state ordinances that can hold back the agenda. We look at the Inflation Reduction Act through a legal and taxation lens.
Betty Jiang - Credit Suisse, Arnold Grant - Reed Smith, Ulysses Smith - Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and Paul Krake - Climate Transformed (moderator)
02:00 SYD (dec 7) | 23:00 SGT | 15:00 GMT | 10:00 EDT | 07:00 PDT
Is the world finally waking up to the potential of nuclear? We look at policy across the globe as the shock of Ukraine, and a re-think of the post-Fukushima era reinvigorates the sector
Kateřina Bohuslavová - ČEZ Group, Simon Irish - Terrestrial Energy and Marco Visscher - Freelance journalist & Author (moderator)
03:00 SYD (dec 7) | 00:00 SGT (dec 7) | 16:00 GMT | 11:00 EDT | 08:00 PDT
One on One: Hexas
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is the only near-term option that airlines have regarding progress towards Net Zero. Immense scepticism abounds about the scalability of SAF, which is only 0.1% of all aviation fuel consumed. What is the prospect of SAF making an appreciable difference in the years ahead? Without this, the airline industry must face criticism of greenwashing.
Wendy Owens - Hexas Biomass and Paul Krake - Climate Transformed (moderator)
04:00 SYD (dec 7) | 01:00 SGT (dec 7) | 17:00 GMT | 12:00 EDT | 09:00 PDT
Power Trading
The EU and UK are being held hostage by skyrocketing power prices. Most believe this is unsustainable, yet the outlook for Russian gas post the 2023 Northern winter remains suspect. How do industrial companies plan, and is a permanent respite possible?
Silvia Messa - Volue, Stefan Konstantinov - ICIS and Paul Krake - Climate Transformed (moderator)
05:00 SYD (dec 7) | 02:00 SGT (dec 7) | 18:00 GMT | 13:00 EDT | 10:00 PDT
Venture Capital
Early-stage allocators have been rocked as the excesses of COVID-era liquidity spared no growth segment. Are more sensible valuations just what the VC community needs for a more stable climate tech, or will lingering risk aversion leave exciting start-ups underfunded?
Jonathan Maxwell - SDCL, Jan Lozek - Future Energy Ventures, Jenny Abramson - ReThink Impact, Christina O'Conor - Congruent Ventures and Paul Krake - Climate Transformed (moderator)
06:00 SYD (dec 7) | 03:00 SGT (dec 7) | 19:00 GMT | 14:00 EDT | 11:00 PDT
Climate ETFs
Few argue with the long-term outlook for climate technology, yet Climate ETFs have been unable to separate themselves from the de-rating of all growth equity investments. Is 2023 the year of decoupling?
Luke Oliver- Kraneshares, Hector McNeil - HanETF, Shaheen Contractor - Bloomberg ESG and Paul Krake - Climate Transformed (moderator)
07:00 SYD (dec 7) | 04:00 SGT (dec 7) | 20:00 GMT | 15:00 EDT | 12:00 PDT

SEC Disclosure Requirements for Scope 3 Emissions
Of all the powerful climate themes for 2023, SEC Scope 3 emissions Disclosure Requirements for US public companies are front and centre for Climate Transformed and our corporate community. If implemented, it could lead to an explosion of demand for carbon offsets and a fast-tracking of carbon mitigation strategies. However, does the recent Supreme Court ruling against the EPA put mandatory disclosures into question? We debate this complex legal issue
